Less than 24 hours after a police station, vehicles and other property in Abak 10 and Ini local government were set ablaze by unknown gun men, the Akwa Ibom State government have received a threatening message from a group identified as ‘real dark boys.’

The threat made in a private group named ‘Essien Udim Online Community’ on Facebook on Monday, warned the state government to meet their demands before September 1 or risk losing top facilities in the state to their torrent destruction.

The targeted places by the group, Topfaith Mkpatak, all schools in Essien Udim, Ewet housing estate, Shelter Afrique, Tower of Ivory schools, and other landmark facilities owned by government in the state.

Part of the threat reads, ”this is to inform the government of Akwa Ibom state that if we, the able youths of Essien Udim and the group of real dark boys do not hear from them on or before 1st September 2021, we shall burn down top places in Akwa Ibom owned by the government of this state.

We will burn down all of the state, we will burn down all the schools in Essien Udim including TopFaith which we know its owned by the government, houses will be burnt down, we will set Ewet Housing and Shelter Afrique ablaze, Tower of Ivory will be burnt down, we know hotels owned by government officials, cars will be destroyed.”

The group alleged that the threat was a revenge move which they claim, ‘time to revenge has come. We warned you but you didn’t listen, all the members of the past and present government cabinet should get ready for real war.”

Recall, Essien Udim which is the country home of the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Godswill Akpabio has been under siege by hoodlums who destroyed property and rendered some inhabitants homeless last month before the Military took over the ravaged community.

The threat has called for serious concerns from citizens in the state who have called on the state government to address the looming disaster in the state. Among persons who reacted to the threat was wife of the former Commissioner for Labour, Productivity and Manpower Planning, Mrs Patience Ibanga Akpabio.

Akpabio in her reaction said ”judgment has come. Let us wake up and pray. God said prat for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district months ago. Now He is saying pray for Uyo and Eket Senatorial districts.”

Continuing, she said, ”the chickens are coming home to roast for the evil that men do, lives with them now. 2019 elections was a do or die affair, now the ripple effect is the violence we are seeing in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district.”

The Akpabio’s daughter-in-law warned the government not to allow innocent citizens suffer the ripple effect of what she described as ‘greed and power for power in 2019.’ She tasked the government to keep to their side of the bargain by addressing the matter diplomatically.

Meanwhile, the state government is yet to respond to the threat or give a stance on the matter as at press time.
