We are one of the few nations that have been blessed with so many natural resources, so it is only natural that we amass a lot of wealth from these resources.

To discover the richest states in Nigeria, one has to look into the GDP of these states.

Akwa Ibom is a Nigerian state that is located in the southern region.

This state has a total population of over 5 million people.

The main ethnic groups in this state are the Annang, Ibibio, Obolo, Oron, and Eket.

This state houses the world-class information technology called ‘Ibom E-Library’.

Today, Akwa Ibom is the home of the best football stadium in Nigeria.

Even the Dangote Cement Factory is located in Ibese, Ogun State, Nigeria.

7. Edo State – GDP: $11.89 Billion

Edo state is the seventh richest state in Nigeria.

Like I have said, this state is famous for its capital ‘Benin City’.

Edo attracts a lot of tourists due to their Emotan Statue, The River Niger Beach, and also the Ise Lake.

6. Kano State – GDP: $12.39 Billion

Kano state is one of the richest Northern states in Nigeria today.

Today, this state is ranked as the 6th richest state in all of Nigeria.

Kano is a major producer of products from the likes of animal skins and more.

They also distribute products like garlic, cotton, soybeans, and more to other parts of the country.

5. Imo State – GDP: $14.21 Billion

This is a state that is located in the south east region of Nigeria.

Imo state is blessed with natural resources like crude oil, zinc, white clay, limestone, lead, natural gas, and more.

Just like Rivers state, Delta is one of the states with the highest deposit of natural gas and crude oil.

Rivers state covers a whopping 11,077 spare kilometers of land in the south-south region in Nigeria.

This state actually has a total population of about 5.2 million people.

With a GDP of over $21 Billion, Rivers state is currently ranked as the second richest state in Nigeria.

This state is blessed with natural reserves of crude oil and gas.

A large percentage of the Nigerian crude oil export comes from this state.
