A female police officer has allegedly shot the founder of Sahara Reporter, Mr Omoyele Sowore today, at Unity Fountain, Abuja during a peaceful protest.
Sowore who was protesting alongside other comrades were seen in a live video chanting the unionism song ‘solidarity forever’, before he was hit.
Recall, Sowore has been at the frontline, calling for the sack of President Muhammadu Buhari over what he described as ‘bad government’ and ‘poor leadership.’
Also, Sowore was last year arrested by the Nigerian government and tried for his consistent call for the removal of President Buhari from office.
Shortly after Sowore was shot, he made another video showing the part where the bullet hit him.
In the live, the Revolution Now progenitor was seen telling the world that he’s been shot by the police.
Also confirming the report, Human Rights Activist, Barr. Inibehe Effiong had wrote in his Facebook,
He wrote: ”The officer fired a teargas cannister directly at his right thigh. Sowore was specifically targeted.
The criminal officer is said to be CSP Atine. I watched Sowore being shot live on Facebook.
This is what Nigeria has been turned into under Buhari. They’ve declared war on the Civic Space.
The FCT Police Commissioner has fenced the Unity Fountain with iron and cables to prevent protests.
This is a criminal offence under the Anti-Torture Act of 2017.”
